泥人laiyanGALLERY
exhibition by Louise Giblin MA ARBS
August 12-September 11 2010

British artist Louise Giblin was elected to the Royal British Society of Sculptors in January 2010. Her drawings and sculptures are response to observations of people and places: ‘I am interested in display, the outward expression of character through possessions, pastimes and environments.’ Giblin uses drawing for design development and as a diary of her travels. Complex images overlay portraits with multi-layered suggestions of buildings, gardens, art works, food, drink and vehicles.

In ‘England and Beyond,’ her solo show at Hong Kong’s recently launched Gallery Laiyan, prints of Louise Giblin’s detailed drawings explore both the familiar- friends, family and a historical English environment (her Tudor house was constructed in 1506) – and recent travels including Jersey, continental Europe and Egypt. ‘A paradigm shift takes place whenever I travel; it is easy to assume one understands how people exist in other countries… I enjoy making physical records of interesting encounters.’
